Thu, 23 August 2007 ![]() There’s a stigma often attached to people who’ve been involved in dance music for a long time in that after a number of years they become quite jaded and rarely get excited about the music and clubs or, for the most part, the DJs associated with it. As someone who’s been involved in this erratic scene, primarily as a reviewer, I’ve been more then guilty of this attitude at some point in time, sometimes without even realising it. As the years have gone by, I’ve become less and less dazzled by the concept of the ‘DJ’ and the whole idea of the DJ being a God is well and truly over for me. You lot are human, just like me. So reaching the stage where I think I’ve heard all the DJs I need to hear therefore I’ve heard it all before, you would think that there was nothing left to surprise me. Well, I couldn’t be more wrong… Every now and then, along comes a DJ who, from my perspective, is the total package. Talented, charismatic and forever fine-tuning his chosen art at every turn while still remaining spontaneous and forward thinking, London based Justin Steel falls easily into the ‘total package’ deal. Over the last few years his talents as a DJ have deeveloped at an almost exponential rate. With his style firmly meshed in all things house infused, this is one DJ who can make you feel like you’re on a sun drenched beach in Ibiza or in the pits of a dark and grimy club about to lose your sanity. While there is an endless supply of promotional mixes available at the click of a mouse today, it's his that I look forward to the most. Not only do they pique my interest from a musical perspective but they forever make me want to get up and dance like I don't care. Of all the DJs in the world, he’s one of the few who actually makes me wish I knew how to mix, just so I could have the opportunity to play on the same night as him. So without any further ramblings from me – and trust me, I can talk about this guy for hours - presented for your listening pleasure is the first in a series of podcasts put together exclusively by Justin for Progressive Sounds. Buckle up and get ready for a mix that begins on a dubby, beautifully melodic sound and just when you think you've got it sussed, will twist your head completely around and almost scare the pants off you before bringing you back up for air. In an industry that’s full of DJs with egos larger then their talent, I'll let Justin's mix do all the talking. Enjoy! Anthony Collins 'Parrafine' Comments[9] |
